White loaf knot

This post has come to fill a gap left by several generations of sailors whose main concerns across the centuries have been tying masts, sails, jibs and harpoons with their ropes. I’m here to show you my knot for white loaf bags. A simple but still very useful knot for those who want to keep their loaf slices fresh as long as possible. Simple and easy. It’s that sort of thing that with time you will do even without looking what you’re doing.

Grabbing the upper part of the bag with one hand, spin the bottom part of it with the other hand like an upside down top to make a twisted braid that closes the open entry of the bag. Take care to not leave an air balloon inside and to not smash any slice.

Holding one of the ends of that wrap that comes with the bag in my fingers, make a simple one-turn knot close to the bread slices only bending the wrap end around the wire. Keeping the braid firmly in place with your fingers, make a second simple one-turn knot with the other end of the wrap around the twisted braid approximately one inch above the first, again only bending the wire end over the wire.

The reason why I just bend the wrap end around the wire is to make it easier to open the bag later - it's just  putting your finger into the space between the two knots and the braid and pulling the wrap. Besides this knot is just intended to hold the braid firmly twisted so as air doesn't enter into the bag, not to hinder by force the bread slices from running away like crazy all around your kitchen. That’s it. My knot is now left to posterity.
