Onion Slices Salad
To make me feel better after that stumble with the liver Vilma came to show me how to make her onion salad. It is really easy.
It is just fine slice an onion while you put some water to boil. Then you pour the boiling water over the onion slices to take the acid away. Drain the water after some minutes. Then it is just to season the slices with salt, lemon, dried oregano, and olive oil. It was really easy even for me.
Onions are one of the novice cook’s terrors, worsened by the fact that you use onions almost everywhere. You are there slicing an onion and suddenly you see nothing. Tears falling down while you desperately try to finish the job without slicing your fingers. Impossible to not laugh at you. Total shame.
It reminds of those movies where a good guy samurai is temporarily blinded by a dirty trick of the bad guy during the fight, with a sword in his hands, only seeing distorted figures around him.
I couldn’t buy a pair of protective goggles for this task, but for I find out that putting the onion on the fridge/freezer for some time before slicing helps to hold the acid inside of it. You can slice the onion without losing your macho’s face for a little more time. And you always have the option of using a food processor that allows you to chop two onions in few seconds. Très jolie.
