Taking fruits of tomatoes
I’ve read on Tweeter that knowledge is knowing the tomato is a fruit, wisdom is not putting it in your fruit salad. I also read that for biology the difference between fruits and vegetables is that fruits have seeds while vegetables don’t. So according to this definition many things we call vegetables as the circumspect and traditional okra and the terrible and dangerous red pepper in fact would be fruits.
But well before knowing about that difference I used to take the seeds out of the tomatoes to use them in salads and sauces.
Additionally to taking the seeds out I also peel the tomatoes. People claim that tomato skin is hard to digest. Some say it is where agro-toxins accumulate. Others say their seeds can cause kidney stones. I don’t know if it is true, but anyway they give a pungent taste when bitten into the sauce.
There’s a trick to peel tomatoes involving a thermal chock with boiling and iced water. Yeah, a good trick, but I think it wastes too much energy. To save the planet I prefer to use the good old well-sharpen knife for this, with the additional advantage that it helps me to improve my still incipient manual skills. Then it is just taking off the seeds and slicing the tomatoes to take the fruits of them.
