Cooking and drinking
It is a fetish for many novice weekend cooks. Quality time cooking and drinking some wine or beer with his or her friends. It is really very relaxing.
But in my humble opinion a very important precaution you should take in this situation is to certify that every one of your guests is drinking with you.
Since alcohol makes it highly probable that something will go wrong in your kitchen, it seems to be proper that alcohol itself fixes the problem making everyone a little drunk and less critical about your food.
Alcohol boosts in exponential rates the probability of salting or spicing in excess (as commented on a previous post) or forgetting something (as commented on a previous post). Usually it also affects your sense of taste and your ability in solving any problem that may arise. Forgetting an ingredient of your recipe becomes something expectable. Additionally, you can spill something hot on somebody’s lap, burn and/or cut one of your own fingers or cause any other crazy catastrophe like these.
So just in case it may be a good idea having a ‘something delivery’ available some pushbuttons away in your neighborhood. But I wish you good luck anyway!
